SMS Seydlitz – Mike (2020)

4.5 units, 24 seconds, German Battlecruiser

The Seydlitz is a fantastic ship for new and for advanced builders. It has good gun placement options and very little target area. The internal pictures are from 2023, exterior was taken prior. This ship has twin 50 round offset stern guns, a 50 round haymaker, and a 25 round down angled bow “funny” gun that was previously a true sidemount, as well as a full unit pump

This is the version of the ship with 50 round offset stern guns, a 50 round haymaker, and a 25 round bow sidemount. He runs 1 full unit pump.

The bow of the ship has the 5oz bottle and the “funny gun” with a full 50 round magazine that pushes through the super structure. This full 50 round length magazine is almost always loaded with 25 bbs but this does allow for flexibility, so that he has the option to do a ˝ unit pump or put the 50 rounds in front and do a 25 round haymaker. I don’t love the magazine through the middle of the ship and into the funnel, but there are few other ways to really do it on this ship. This is also a good look at the knob style latches and silicone that helps seal the decks. This particular ship is well known for its fantastic deck seal.

The mid section. Far right is the radio box. Three 10ah 6V NiMH batteries go sideways in the middle with a piece of foam in the front of them. The pump is further to the bow between the motors. This ship has brushless motors. The stern guns load between the drive motors as well.

Stern portion with the decks on. Initially the elevated turret was built into the ship but working on internal components is challenging when you do this. In order to make it more accessible that portion of the deck was cut out but he does have this section very well sealed. The deck sections and sub deck were pre cut fiberglass board but Mike swapped the fiberglass board out for wood.

The stern of the ship has the rudder gear, which is a push rod from the servo to a larger gear (32t) which meshes with a smaller gear.

The props are at 6 inches from the stern. This ship started with 1.25 inch props that were not able to get it to speed so the props were changed out to 1.5 inch. The rudder is 3D printed.
