- Ship Yard -
For a lot of us, the building of ships is just as much fun as battling them. Below are some pictures highlighting the building process.
SMS Derfflinger 2 – Tyler (2017)
Picked up the Derfflinger at Nats 2016, she needed some work. She hadn’t been battled in a few years. Since Tyler already had one the plan was to copy the layout and get a second one done, perhaps to pass on to a new comer.
Cracked fiberglass subdeck will need to be replaced.
The fiberglass was very weak and snapped out everywhere so it was just cut out and replaced with wood.
All of the ribs were backed with another 1/8 inch or so of fiberglass and several of them were backed with a solid piece of ¼ inch plastic
Super structure doesn’t need to change, still looks good.
HSM Barham – Tyler (2016)
The ship started as a fiber glass hull
Decks and sub decks cut out, ribs marked
Ribs cut and ABS plastic superstructure is built
ABS plastic super structure
Hull skinned with 1/32 inch balsa
